VapeGuardian sensors are designed to detect e-cigarette vapour, THC, Spice and tobacco smoke.
How do the sensors send alerts upon detection?
Upon detecting vaping, the sensors send alerts to designated staff members via SMS, email, or through the VapeGuardian app available on iOS and Android devices.
Can I install the system myself?
In most cases, existing maintenance teams can conduct installation. However, should you require assistance then we can advise remotely or direct you to an authorised installed in your area.
How to setup

What is the installation process for VapeGuardian sensors?
1. Remove bracket
Twist the bracket attached to the underside of the sensor, anti-clockwise. The basket with then become unattached
2. Screw to surface
Using the fixing provided, screw the bracket in to the location where you wish for the sensor to be fitted
3. Attach sensor
Now place the underside of the señor against the no fixed bracket. Then twist the sensor in to place until it clicks, firmly

Setting up your Wifi sensor
Before you begin the installation using the VapeGuardian iOS app, here’s a few things that must be done:
- Your iOS device is connected to the wifi
- Your iOS device has bluetooth turned on
- The wifi connection is 2.4GHz
- The sensor is powered on and light is flashing
- You are stood within 3 metres of the powered on sensor

Setting up your SIMLink 4G sensor
1. Insert SIM card
Insert the SIM card in to the device and power on the device. nb. *Make a note of the long number of the SIM card and what sensor it is going in to.
2. Locate QR code
Remove the bracket on the underside of the device. Twist anti-clockwise to release.
3. Scan QR code
Tap the icon in the top left corner of the app. Now scan the QR code and the device will be added.
4. Complete the process
Name the device, hit "Save" and add the device to a room.

How do I add staff?
In Mobile App
To add staff member:
- Navigate to the Staff page in bottom bar. Click on plus button in top-left of the screen.
- Fill up your staff details in all the required fields.
- Click on “Add Staff” button to add the staff.
In Web Dashboard
To add staff member:
- Navigate to the Staff Management page from side menu. Click on “Add Staff Member” button in top-right of the screen.
- Fill up your staff details in all the required fields.
- Click on “Save” button to add the staff.
The manager level account is set up automatically to receive email notifications (when vaping is detected). You can change this to SMS or Push Notification via the avatar icon then ‘Profile’ in top right-hand corner of the admin area.
Here you can add a name, edit your username, change your password, update your email address, add / edit a mobile number and update your noficiation preference.
How do I add rooms?
In Mobile App
To add a room:
- Navigate to the Room page from side menu. Click on plus button in top-left of the screen.
- Enter name for your room.
- Select one or more devices placed in this room.
- Click on “Add Room” button to add the room.
In Web Dashboard
To add a room:
- Navigate to the Room Management page from side menu. Click on “Add Room” button in top-right of the screen.
- Enter name for your room.
- Select one or more devices placed in this room.
- Click on “Submit” button to add the room.

What are the power and connectivity requirements for the sensors?
The sensors are mains powered and connect via Wi-Fi, ensuring continuous operation and reliable communication. Where Wi-Fi is not available, we offer a 4G connected device.
How does VapeGuardian ensure the system remains up-to-date?
The team regularly rolls out improvements "over the air" at no extra cost to customers, ensuring the system always has the latest features and best performance.
Does VapeGuardian integrate with existing security or monitoring systems?
VapeGuardian is designed to work independently but can also be integrated with certain security and building management systems upon request. Our team of in-house developers are available for bespoke integrations.
What area can a sensor cover?
The sensor works optimally up to 30m³ (about the size of the back of a HGV). Any larger areas will mean alerts become less reliable and, in some cases, take longer to trigger.
How does VapeGuardian minimise false alarms compared to other detectors?
Unlike competitors that rely solely on PM2.5 detection, which can result in numerous false positives, VapeGuardian utilises a comprehensive 10-point formula to accurately detect vaping, ensuring reliable results.
