Vaping: A Public Health Ticking Time Bomb for Under-18s, Warn MPs

Vapes are a “ticking time bomb” for under-18s’ health, according to MPs

Inhaling and exhaling vapour created by an electronic cigarette or other similar device is known as vaping, and it has grown in popularity recently. Concerns have been voiced concerning the potential effects of vaping on young people, though.

Recently, MPs were informed that vapes represent a “public health ticking time bomb” for those under the age of 18. After a study revealed that more than one in ten 11 to 18-year-olds in the UK had tried e-cigarettes and that the proportion of young people who vape has increased by nearly 50% in just five years, the warning was issued.

The survey also revealed that the long-term health impacts of vaping are still poorly understood and that young people who use e-cigarettes are more likely to start smoking regular cigarettes. Experts have therefore demanded that immediate action be made to solve this problem.

Many e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive and can harm young people’s brain development, which is one of the concerns about vaping. In addition to respiratory issues, nicotine can cause other health issues like elevated heart rate and blood pressure.

There is evidence that some young people may be utilising vapes to consume illegal substances like cannabis oil, as well. Because it can be challenging to determine exactly what is in these substances and because they might present additional health risks, this is especially concerning.

In order to address this problem, experts have asked for stronger laws governing the marketing and sale of e-cigarettes as well as more public awareness of the dangers of vaping. They have also advocated for providing young people with access to support programmes so they can stop vaping after being caught.

In conclusion, although while vaping may appear to be a harmless hobby, it’s vital to keep in mind that it can have major health repercussions, especially for young individuals. Therefore, it is crucial that we act right away to address this issue before it develops into a serious public health crisis.
