After a 10-year-old boy cut himself on a broken glass vape container while falling and needing hospital treatment, concerns have been raised about the use and disposal of vapes.
A mother who lives nearby brought up a recent event that happened on the afternoon of July 2 at the covered hut on the playground and playing field in West Park, away from Cheriton Close.
She claimed that at the time, her kid was playing around the hut with other children, one of them was ten years old. The 10-year-old jumped out of the hut and landed on what was thought to be broken glass and plastic from abandoned vapes. He started bleeding profusely after the sharp-edged trash sliced through his skin and an artery.
The mother, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said: “This child could have passed away. A young man who is friends with the boy’s family went down to aid after my son ran for assistance, and the ambulance call operator gave him instructions over the phone on how to attempt to stop the bleeding, which he was able to do.I believe that these teenagers who leave trash like shattered glass bottles and abandoned vapes ought to be aware that their actions may have resulted in the death of a young boy. They must be conscious of the effects of their activities.
The South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) released the following statement: “We were summoned at 14:23 on July 2 to an incident in the West Park area. Two double-crew land ambulances were dispatched, and one person was transported to Derriford Hospital via land ambulance.
