During a crackdown on sales of electronic cigarettes to minors, thousands of illegal vape goods were recovered, and numerous stores were raided. Following many complaints regarding the illegal sale of vapes to people under the age of 18, Trading Standards inspectors conducted shop raids throughout Bolton and seized 2,270 vape goods.
The council and Greater Manchester Police conducted a significant operation together, visiting stores that were allegedly selling e-cigarettes to school-age children. The action was taken in response to concerns expressed by parents and school administrators regarding the rising national trend of vaping in classrooms.
In addition to the raids, a number of test purchases have been made to make sure stores are abiding by their mandate to verify ID before selling vapes. The council noted that many vape goods appear to be targeted and marketed primarily towards young people, despite health concerns associated with the items.
